3 Weeks on CHEELEE... For $6. Was It Worth It?

in Rant, Complain, Talk3 days ago (edited)

I'm not one to call anyone's project a scam, but I would say straight up, this kinda feels like the new kind of scam out there. It's so well coordinated that you could hardly tell until you've tried it for yourself. Guess what? I have so I would save you from stressing yourself. This blog is not intended to shit on anyone's project, no far from that, I wouldn't be happy if someone did same to me, but it's intended to inform people on what Cheelee is and what it's not. Hopefully if they one day make it better I will make another blog to reinform the world.

Why does it Deserve a Blog

Well, I wouldn't have wasted my time and your time to have written this blog if not for the fact that I'm noticing they are putting a lot of money into ads on YouTube and other social media platforms. The value proposition could be tempting so the possibility of someone signing up and getting disappointed is very high. So I have decided to do the Lord's work and help as many people as I can to not lose their money to this company or group of people.

Let's Dive In

I believe the app has been in existence for over 2 years now (last February being exactly 2 years according to Google). I never really heard much about it until I was doing some research into these watch to earn sites and apps. No I don't really need the money, but I figured I'm a heavy consumer of YouTube shorts, Instagram reels and well TikTok (but not anymore) so why not make some pennies while enjoying myself (win win scenario). Somewhere last year in October I think, while searching on YouTube about those kind of stuff, I bumped into Cheelee. Oh boy did it give some bold advertising. What made me buy it was the fact that it's paying in crypto so it should be legit. But somewhere deep in my brain I began to wonder how they could keep such a system going. Well according to them, they are sharing the ad revenue they generate as users use their app. That was the first time I had heard of a platform using that mechanism, so I thought wow, that's an impressive business model. I spoke to my twin brother about it, and he immediately discounted it for no reason.

You see, I'm the type of person who makes decisions only based on facts not feelings or convictions so I wasn't going to let his negative vibes stop me from my new gold mine. I downloaded the app and signed up with my email address. Boom! I was gifted with a free glasses upon signing up. What were those glasses for? I thought. Apparently they've developed a system where users need to buy some type of glasses to earn rewards while they scroll through their feed. You can still use the app without glasses, but you won't earn anything, it would just be a random shorts platform. There are different glasses, and they claim that the more expensive the glass you purchase, the more money you can earn. Pretty obvious ain't it?

Gotta Give Something To Get Something:

I'm an entrepreneur and I understand this rule of life: Nothing is free, if you are not paying with cash, someone else paid or something about you (your info.) paid. I said Oh well, I think I can afford to risk some 6 bucks to try this out. The funny thing is, they put a potential profit margin you would make from each glass you buy based on the price next to the glass. So with the 6 dollars, I was supposed to have earned about 20 dollars. That's like 3X my initial investment in less than a month.

Haha, the geniuses have already seen a problem here: Too good to be true.

As you use a glass, its lifespan bar begins to reduce and according to them, if I'm consistent, that glass should break in about 3 weeks. When it breaks it means you can't earn from that glass anymore and you have to purchase a new one. What happens is, these boxes appear once in a while as you scroll through the feed, and when you see one, just tap it open like a mystery box in a game and you receive a random amount. A nice way to gamify your experience.

Long story short, I was all in with my 6 dollars investment in a platform I knew nothing about, just hanging on some hope they would deliver as they have said.

They've changed the UI a little bit from what it looked like in October. I wish I had screenshots, didn't think I would be doing a blog about it, would have been helpful to prove my point.

The Experience

I busted my ass for a whole 3 damn weeks. At a point I felt I wasn't enjoying myself as I do on YouTube shorts. It felt more like a job than an entertainment, because anytime I'm on it, I would be looking out for those boxes with my hard earned money inside. It didn't replace my other social media platforms, I would only go to it when I wanted to work at getting my money back. Plus, I notice something rather funny. You know since I'm a heavy user of shorts, I have watched tons of short form videos so I'm not capping with this one. Most of the videos on Cheelee are a direct copy of people's original post on other platforms. It's so ridiculous to the point where you would see the TikTok logo you see when someone downloads a video straight from TikTok and shares it to you on WhatsApp or any other platform. Was there no one or system checking plagiarised video content? I thought, but then again, it's a small and growing platform so let me overlook that for now and continue scrolling for those boxes. I was consistent enough to exhaust that glasses and when it was finally time to withdraw then came the shocker.

30 percent Scam

To begin with, I didn't get the 20 dollars as advertised. Nope, I got 11 dollars in total. Mind you, that 11 dollars was not earned from just the glasses I bought, it was a combination of the 6 dollar glasses I bought plus the 5 dollars I got from the free glass they gave me at the start.

This is how their system works:

There are two types of wallets everyone has when they sign up to Cheelee. The internal wallet and the external wallet. I assume the external wallet is more like a decentralized wallet you control, not really sure about that though, but it kinda looks like it. Whatever money you earn from the boxes goes straight to the internal wallet. You then have to withdraw it to your external wallet before you can send it to your web3 wallet which should support the Lee token or the Cheel token. I have never earned Cheel token which I assume is their native token. All the earnings were in Lee tokens. I was like cool, no problem, at least I got my 6 dollars back plus the 5 dollars so almost 2X in 3 weeks is still a sweet deal.

Ready to transfer to the external wallet and cash out my earnings. Boom! I have to pay 30% as fees of whatever I'm sending over to external wallet. Get this: I had to deposit 6 dollars from my Binance Web3 wallet to buy the Glasses on their internal market. Say I send it from external to internal and I changed my mind, guess what, I have still lost 30 percent. Once it's in internal, they get 30%.

Now tell me, who in the hell charges 30% on fees and for what?

No problem, I just want to get my 6 dollars back this time and uninstall this app. 11 bucks minus 30 percent should give you 7.7 bucks.

Still a win ain't it? But was it worth the hustle?

Imagine you are on a pay as you go internet service as it's done in most parts of the world. Consider your internet expenses.

The nail in the coffin:

To move your money out of the external wallet you need to deposit BNB tokens. Hahahaha. You gotta be shitting me. Anyways I want my money back. Let me just send some few cents to take my money out. Binance was like nope, you can't send that little an amount. Double burn hahaha. So I sent about a dollar worth of BNB which I couldn't take after. So we are down to 6.7 dollars.

The Lee coin landed in my web 3 wallet and I had to swap for USDT. The only way was through p2p. I bet you know what's going to happen. Long Story short by the time I was done with all the fees to get it to USDT on the main exchange, it was about 6.3.

So yeah, I made 5 percent on my money by working like a horse for them on their platform for 3 weeks straight.

Well Done Chelee.

The other thing I was seeing on YouTube today that got me mad to write about this is people complaining on comments sections of cheelee review videos of another type of Chelee scam. I was lucky to go through the process of getting my money back, but with them, Chelee immediately blocks their account and gives some shady excuse of them violating some terms of service. Most people complained that they reached out to their support and got no feedback.

I don't want that to be you.

If you're seeing those ads pop up on your feed, for your own sanity please swipe over it. I'm not here to destroy anyone's business, I'm here to save the few who will read my experience from getting harmed by this new type of scam out there.

Ok the bright side

Like I said, my intention is not to shit on the app, but to tell what it is and what it's not. I have told you what it's not, here is what it is. Its a nice social media app that allows you to scroll through videos from content creators just like you would do on Instagram reels, TikTok, YouTube shorts and any other platform that is mainly for videos. It has a seamless flow and beautiful theme color. Besides the misleading ad of earning 3X of your money it's great and well built app. If you're there for the fun, oh please knock yourself out, but if you're there for what they advertised, run as fast as you can fella.

They did mention some referral program too, so if you're interested in that kinda of thing you can try it out and let's know if that is any good. What am I even saying? I don't want you going out there sharing links of this experience to others, but then again who am I to stop you.

Anyways, If you have had a better experience with this ap, I would be happy if you share it down below. Like I said in my first Hive blog ever, I only share my views and opinions based on my experiences and I am very open to other views, so please do me a favor and leave your thoughts in the comments, I believe it would go a long way to help one reader someday.

Thanks for visiting my page.

Ah man doesnt sound at all as a good and enjoyable experience. You can put that in the account for "learning money" 😅

Yep, any money lost is considered a tuition fee for a don't lose your money this way lesson.

There is a bunch of things like this out there... if you go to phone apps (even not blockchain related) there's an entire world of this strategy.

Unfortunately..

Gave you a follow on X since I wasn't following you yet.

Aww thanks so much friend, I just saw the notification on my phone.
Really appreciate it. Trying to grow my other social Media accounts.

How did you discover hive, and is there anything on it you need help with (understanding for example).

I was referred my @thehivetuber a close Friend of mine. He spoke to me about inleo last weekend and I gave it a short on Tuesday. Its been a shocking experience.

I would need some help understanding where the money is actually coming from. Because I know someone if losing something when someone is gaining. That's why I didn't hesitate to pay the premium membership.

It will take a bit of a road to understand those details, but I can help with that.

May I ask if you have listened to the video from hiro on X:

If you haven't yet, I would recommend it, so you have a bit more context around many other things on Hive. I am happy to respond to ANY questions you may have, anywhere you wish (even if on PMs or stuff like that).

No I haven't, I would dive in now. Thanks so much for giving.e a helping hand here. Sincerely appreciate that.

No worries, this is hive!

Nice achievement, thanks for letting me know

Awesome job @ricky0! Keep pushing yourself and you'll reach your Hive goals before you know it.

I also tried the app but got booted out for some reason I still don't know. I made feedback but didn't get any response. I also would suggest no one invest there.
