How I recycle my waste in Hong Kong and get rewarded for it!

Garbage disposal in Japan and Hong Kong

During my first stay in Japan (working there as domestic helper for my boss), I noticed that the trash bins there had separated compartments for the different kinds of waste... And you got a penalty if you didn't put the trash in the suitable compartment.

Here in Hong Kong the rules concerning garbage disposal are not that strict. People can choose to recycle their trash in a proper way or to just dump everything in a single trash bin.

I would really appreciate it if in future also the Philippine garbage disposal system would improve and especially more people would care about proper waste disposal instead to litter their plastic bottles, bags and cutlery, food waste, micro packagings and other trash everywhere into the landscapes.

I make a lot of food, and after that always lots of empty plastic packaging, cans, and bottles etc... remain. Therefore for me it is also important to dispose all these waste in a proper way to keep environment clean. Doing recycling is good for nature!

Learning from a fellow Filipina!

Already since a while I was observing one of the Filipinas going to that place from time to time to recycle all her waste.
And of course I am a curious person as usual. As I always saw her day by day I finally just asked her! I asked if she would get anything in return for recycling her garbage in a proper way? And she told me that... yes, one is indeed earning points for proper waste disposal: every 500 points one can redeem something nice, like 1 kg of rice, 1 pack of noodles, oil and many other things. So I asked myself why not doing it, too? In addition of my personal reward it's also good for environment! It's a habbit of discipline. It reminded me that already my mother in the Philippines was always very good in separating all the biowaste from non-biowaste.

Since when am I doing that?

I am doing it since 4 months now, and look how many points I already earned... Altogether already 1327 points! That means that later I can redeem 2 kg rice which is enough to eat for the next 2 weeks!

That's true! Let's hope the best for the future!

Wow, that’s awesome! It’s really inspiring to see how your efforts in recycling are paying off. Earning 1327 points in just four months is no joke! And the fact that you can redeem 2kg of rice from it? That’s such a win-win— Keep it up po, you’re doing great! 😊♻️

Thank you @missellimac! True po, 2 kg of rice from recycling is already a great thing. Thank you for dropping by po.

Wow, truly efficient! In the Philippines, the trash is a headache. 😆 Yes, Japan's trash system is superb! Giving incentives is a nice move.

Yes, as a nature lover I think it is so important to keep our environment clean ... and the incentives are really motivating also.Thank you for stopping by @jijisaurart!

This system is awesome! I hope the PH government can implement something similar instead of just giving dole-outs!

I also hope that will happen in the future!

it would be indeed very nice if the Ph will do something like that in Japan.

Let's hope for the future! In the end situation in the Philippines will only improve, if more and more people get aware of the importance of a clean environment and especially stop littering!

I would really appreciate it if [...] more people would care about proper waste disposal instead to litter their plastic [...]

Absolutely! I like to live in the Philippines for many reasons but I really hope that in future more people there stop littering(!!) because they are getting aware of how important for a better quality of life (and also beautiful!) a clean environment actually is!

How nice if Philippines government aware of the nature also in the country. Thank you @jaki01 for your nice comments.

Yes, government should put more efforts in improving the waste disposal system.

In addition, I think in school teachers should educate already the young students about the importance to keep their own environment clean.

Last but not least, every single individual can contribute by recycling garbage, pick up trash and avoid littering themselves.
