[ESP/ENG] El metodo Zettelkasten

Ahora que volví a la universidad al ser una completamente en línea casi todo en clase son tareas y eso significa anotar muchas cosas e investigar por mi cuenta muchas cosas (como la universidad normal pero con más intensidad en las anotaciones) y entre las curiosidades que encontré en internet fue lo que se conoce como el método Zettelkasten.

Now that I’ve returned to university, and since it’s completely online, almost everything in class involves assignments, which means taking a lot of notes and doing a lot of independent research (like a normal university but with more emphasis on note-taking). Among the curiosities I found on the internet was what is known as the Zettelkasten method.

Este método es un sistema para la creación de notas individuales que se conectan entre sí y que puedan ser comprensivas por sí mismas, pues cada nota conserva solo una idea y/o concepto, lo que se le pueden conocer como notas atómicas.

This method is a system for creating individual notes that are interconnected and can be understood on their own, as each note contains only one idea or concept, which can be referred to as atomic notes.

Así que empecé a profundizar con el tema y de ahí fue que encontré el libro del que la mayoría de la información de internet se basa, así que pensé que podría profundizar aún más con el tema y así es como decidí leerlo y bueno la verdad es que termine conociendo más del tema pero no con la profundidad que yo creía encontrar.

So, I started delving deeper into the topic, and that’s when I found the book that most of the information on the internet is based on. I thought I could explore the subject even further, and that’s how I decided to read it. Well, the truth is, I ended up learning more about the topic, but not with the depth I thought I would find.

La gran diferencia entre los post y/o videos de internet que te encuentras que se dedican a hablar del método Zettelkasten es que si te ayuda a comprender un poco más de la razón e idea de este método, pues si te va explicando él no solo como tomar notas de forma eficaz, sino que da muchas explicaciones de porque hacerlo e incluso que cuando leemos y vamos a tomar notas tenemos que hacerlo con nuestras propias palabras para que de esa forma nos ayuda a tener mejor retención mental y a comprender mejor lo que anotamos a diferencia de solo copiar lo que queremos escribir.

The big difference between the posts and/or videos on the internet that talk about the Zettelkasten method is that this book helps you understand the reason and idea behind the method a bit more. It not only explains how to take notes effectively but also provides many explanations for why to do it. It even mentions that when we read and take notes, we should do so in our own words, as this helps with better mental retention and understanding of what we write, unlike simply copying what we want to write down

La idea del método Zettelkasten es tener tres tipos de notas

1. Las notas fugaces o efímeras, pues tratan de los pensamientos o ideas que tenemos y se nos ocurren al momento
2. Las notas bibliográficas, que son las notas que tomamos de una fuente como un libro, un artículo de internet, etc.
3. Pero al final estas dos de tipos anteriores solo tienen un propósito final, el de crear las notas permanentes, que son aquellas notas donde se compila la información de las notas anteriores para crear una nota con una sola idea y/o concepto y que estas al final se puedan relacionar con otras notas permanentes.

The idea of the Zettelkasten method is to have three types of notes:

1. Fleeting or ephemeral notes, which capture thoughts or ideas that come to us in the moment.
2. Bibliographic notes, which are notes taken from a source like a book, an internet article, etc.
3. However, in the end, these two types of notes have only one ultimate purpose: to create permanent notes. These are the notes where information from the previous notes is compiled to create a note with a single idea or concept, which can then be linked to other permanent notes.

Pero justo lo que mencione anteriormente es una síntesis supercompacta de lo que trata este método y el libro tiene 200 páginas explicando y justificando porque este método es muy bueno para tomar notas y no se lo voy a negar, leyendo este libro si me ha ayudado a poder escribir mucho mejor e incluso no debo de negar que entendí mucho mejor a lo que menciona el libro que a los artículos de internet (incluso tengo mi Zettelkasten sobre lo que es el método Zettelkasten creando una especie de recursividad) y se me hace un libro bueno para nosotros los que nos dedicamos a crear contenido, porque al final podemos compactar nuestras ideas en notas y de esa forma tal vez crear mejores posts.

But what I mentioned earlier is a very condensed summary of what this method is about, and the book is 200 pages long, explaining and justifying why this method is excellent for note-taking. I won’t deny it—reading this book has helped me write much better, and I even understood the book’s explanations better than the internet articles (I even have my own Zettelkasten about the Zettelkasten method, creating a kind of recursion). I think it’s a good book for those of us who create content because, in the end, we can condense our ideas into notes and, in that way, perhaps create better posts.

Además, este libro y sus enseñanzas se puede mezclar muy bien con el libro "Crea tu segundo cerebro" de Tiago Forte del que ya les hablaré más tarde cuando termine de leerlo.

Additionally, this book and its teachings can be mixed very well with the book Build a Second Brain by Tiago Forte, which I’ll talk about later once I finish reading it.

Al final considero que este libro si te ayuda a entender mejor el método y como empezar, sin embargo si con la información que existe en internet te basta para comprenderlo entonces leer el libro es innecesario pues 200 páginas se me hacen demasiado contenido que siguiendo las mismas enseñanzas del libro podrías resumir en algunas notas que cabrían en tu propio Zettelkasten

In the end, I believe this book does help you better understand the method and how to get started. However, if the information available on the internet is enough for you to grasp it, then reading the book is unnecessary, as 200 pages feel like too much content that, following the book’s own teachings, you could summarize into a few notes that would fit in your own Zettelkasten.
