Argentina - Walking in the Ushuaia sunset can take a long time because we have natural light at 10 PM. / Caminar en el atardecer de Ushuaia puede llevarte mucho tiempo porque tenemos luz natural a las 10 PM. 😃❤️

One thing that struck me about Ushuaia the first time I came here, and continued to do so this time when I stayed much longer, was how late it gets dark. This phenomenon is ideal to enjoy nature, because there is so much light that you can do very long treks that if you have enough energy you can do them in the same day. But for more relaxed walks in the city you can also take advantage of this, as visiting the waterfront with the Beagle Channel reflecting is always magical and you don't need to go that far to appreciate it 😃.

Algo que me llamó la atención de Ushuaia la primera vez que vine y que siguió haciéndolo esta vez que me quedé muchísimo más tiempo, fue lo tarde que oscurece. Este fenómeno es ideal para disfrutar de la naturaleza, porque hay tanta luz que podes hacer trekkings muy largos que si tenes la energía suficiente podes hacerlos en el mismo día. Pero para paseos más relajados en la ciudad esto también se puede aprovechar, ya que visitar la costanera con el Canal de Beagle reflectante siempre es mágico y no es necesario irse tan lejos para apreciarlo 😃.

When I had just arrived back in Ushuaia to do my job exchange for hostel accommodation in October, I was assigned to cover a receptionist shift from 1 to 5 PM. I found this timetable a bit controversial at first because I was in the way all day to go to the mountain, but as the days went by I made the most of it. As there are no guests in the hostel at that time, everything was very quiet and I could use that time for my Hive work. That way, when I finished at 5 PM I had all my homework done and I still had enough day ahead of me to go for even a short walk 😃.

Cuando apenas había llegado de nuevo a Ushuaia para hacer mi intercambio de trabajo por alojamiento en el hostel en Octubre, me tocaba cubrir un turno de recepcionista de 1 a 5 PM. Este horario me pareció un poco polémico al principio porque me estorbaba todo el día como para ir a la montaña, pero con el paso de los días supe aprovecharlo. Como a esa hora no hay huéspedes en el hostel, todo estaba muy tranquilo y podía usar ese mismo tiempo para mi trabajo de Hive. De ese modo, cuando terminaba a las 5 PM ya tenía todas mis tareas hechas y todavía tenía bastante día por delante como para ir a dar aunque sea un paseo corto 😃.

Our hostel is about 10 blocks from the city center, which makes it a bit out of the way but close enough to quickly reach the waterfront. Everywhere you look, Ushuaia is beautiful, thanks to its aesthetics and its location between the water and the mountains. As the afternoon progresses, the sky changes colors and the landscape seems to transform. No matter how many times you go downtown, it always seems like a different place 😃.

Nuestro hostel queda a unas 10 cuadras del centro, lo que lo hace un poco retirado pero lo suficientemente cerca como para estar rápido en la costanera. Mires para donde mires, Ushuaia es hermosa, por su estética y su ubicación entre el agua y las montañas. A medida que la tarde avanza, el cielo va cambiando de colores y parece que los paisajes se transforman. No importa cuántas veces vayas al centro, siempre va a parecer un lugar diferente 😃.

I took these photos on October 23rd at 9 PM, in the middle of spring in Ushuaia. You can see how the sun was just setting, but there was still a bit more to go until the sky turned completely dark. For the summer solstice, on December 21st, the city held a celebration like every year. That day, sunset was scheduled for 11:05 PM, truly incredible. However, on that date and on some of the following days, the night was never completely dark. If you looked at the horizon, you could still see a band of light in the distance. The sun never left this part of the planet, and I loved witnessing that ❤️.

Estas fotos las tomé el 23 de octubre a las 9 PM, en la plena primavera de Ushuaia. Pueden ver com recién el sol estaba bajando, pero hasta que el cielose volviera completamente oscuro faltaba un poco más. Para cuando fue el solsticio de verano, el 21 de diciembre, la ciudad realizó una celebración como cada año. Ese día, la puesta de sol estaba estipulada para las 11.05 PM, realmente increíble. Sin embargo, en esa fecha y en algunos de los días siguientes, la noche nunca estuvo completamente oscura. Si mirabas al horizonte, aún se podía ver una franja de luz a lo lejos. El sol nunca se despegó de esta parte del planeta y me encantó presenciar eso ❤️.

At this time of day, my favorite place to go for a walk is the Tourist Port. While boats are moored along almost the entire coast of the Beagle Channel bordering the city, this is where the catamarans that take boat trips are concentrated. Seeing the reflections of these boats is beautiful, even more so when there's no wind, like on a day like this. If you're wondering about the cold, in October the average temperature was 10°C, but since it's a dry climate, wearing two layers of clothing was fine. I'm a team summer, but I like the cold in Ushuaia 😃.

En este momento del día, mi lugar preferido para ir a pasear es el Puerto Turístico. Si bien en casi toda la costa del Canal de Beagle lindante a la ciudad hay barcos amarrados, en este lugar se concentran los catamaranes que llevan a las excursiones maritimas. Ver los reflejos de estas embarcaciones es hermoso y más aún cuando no hay viento como en un día como ese. Si se preguntan por el frío, en octubre las temperaturas promedio eran de 10°C, pero al ser un clima seco, con ponerse dos capas de ropa ya estaba bien. Yo soy team verano, pero el frío de Ushuaia me gusta 😃.

In addition to the beautiful landscapes to see, I like this city for how peaceful it always is. It still retains its small-town spirit without losing its functionality. Deciding to spend all this time here (so far) was a great decision. I can take advantage of the entire season of long days and do a lot of trekking, of course. Currently, the sun rises at 8 AM and sets at 8 PM, unlike summer when it was only "dark" from 11 PM to 4 AM. The weather is still pleasant, but it doesn't compare to all the fantastic amounts of daylight: luckily, I was able to see both ❤️.

Además de los paisajes hermosos que hay para ver, esta ciudad me gusta por lo tranquila que es siempre. Todavía conserva su espiritu de pueblo pero sin perder funcionalidades. Haber decido pasar todo este tiempo acá (hasta ahora) fue una gran decisión. Puede aprovechar toda la temporada de días largos y hacer muchos trekkings por supuesto. Actualmente, el sol sale a las 8 AM y se pone a las 8 PM, contrario al verano cuando solo estaba "oscuro" de 11 PM a 4 AM. Igualmente el clima sigue siendo agradable, pero no se compara con toda esa cantidad genial del luz de día: por suerte, pude ver ambas cosas ❤️.
