A room with a view

Venice

I got our family a penthouse in Venice for the Spring Break. Girls were busy into the break. So they just knew that we are going there didn’t know where we are staying. So they were positively surprised.

I rarely use a B&W image but for some reason it felt like it. Especially because Venice is so colorful, even during a rainy and damp day.

These days it’s not hard at all thanks to AirBNB. Compared to any hotels that I like in Venice, this apartment is half priced and came with a free airport private boat pickup which is about €140. Nothing to complain and the ladies love it.

That is the view from the living room on this penthouse apartment. We you open the door, you see this below.

I don’t know about you, but I am sold! Honestly if this place wasn’t a day away from Houston, I would just buy at apartment here today! It is even affordable in US standards.

Travel light

I am two kids as many of you know and we are traveling with just a backpack each. If you can do that in Venice I highly recommend it. As you probably know, Venice does not have any cars or buses, everything is transported by boats and then you walk the narrow cobblestone streets. Yes, not very friendly to roller bags. It’s been little more than 24 hrs and I have seen numerous tourists struggle with their roller bags! The only downside for me is that I am without my laptop. However it is quite liberating. I can even do a hive post from my phone!

I am greeted with is relatively less crowded Venice. The carnival is just over and the tourists have left the town a little bit. Also I am staying here for the whole week which I am told not many tourists do. So I have the advantage to taking that picture above from the Rialto bridge early morning when it was relatively empty.

The grand canal looked pretty even in a rainy and lousy cold day!

Street Scene

I am more interested in street scenes here as opposed to usual sites of Piazza San Marco and Doge’s Place! I thought Marforio Dragon Lamp was pretty!

IMG_9681.jpeg

The Marforio Dragon Lamp is a remarkable blend of functionality and artistry, embodying the Baroque style of the early 18th century. This striking bronze sculpture features an intricately designed dragon, symbolizing power and majesty, and serves as both a practical light source and an ornamental landmark near Campo Marzio. Its presence enhances the beauty of the Venetian streets, illustrating the city’s unique approach to public art. More than just a lamp, the Marforio Dragon Lamp stands as a testament to Venice’s rich cultural heritage and artistic legacy, captivating all who encounter it.

I had no idea on this until I literally ran into it! Who knows how many hidden secrets Venice holds! I am totally captivated by the town already!

Aaaah Venice. Went there in 2011 I think, when me and my former GF were doing some vacation in Slovenia (which is incredibly beautiful!). We stayed at a place just outside the city, nothing spectacular as we were students and not that flush. We went there by train, which was very interesting as the train system in Slovenia is even less reliable than in Germany :-D

Some pics from back then - and I have a lamp, too! But just a regular one, in a very narrow alley :-D Great time back them, getting a little nostalgic. Thank you!

I hope you have an amazing and safe trip! It looks quite beautiful! I've never really been out of the country besides Canada, so most everything is exciting for me!

Venice does not have any cars or buses, everything is transported by boats

It sounds a bit odd initially but then how cool it is to not have the pollution because of cars or buses. People get accustomed to it over time and boat riding is always enjoyable and soothing. I have always heard Venice or in general Italy is very expensive, but you feel, that's not true ?

Expensive or Cheap is relative.

There are inexpensive options to explore when traveling to Venice. Lots of students do it on budget. They stay outside the city and take a train to the island and stay for the day. The island is small and totally pedestrian.

Az that's an incredible trip - the posts about your travels are awesome!

It's like a glimpse into slices of the world :)

I hope you and your family enjoy it!

Oh man, that's like ultimate dream trip for me though. A penthouse in Venice with a private boat pickup, now that’s how you do Spring Break right, lol. The roller bag struggle is not cool, I'm not going to like only that. Venice is a backpack only zone 🤔

Me encanta el nombre.
No todos entenderán la referencia cinematográfica!
Felicidades por la excelente fotografía!

After Barcelona, Venice is my favourite city, as a non-driver, I love that it's largely a pedestrian city and once you figure out the boat system, its easy to get about in leaps.

The city just exudes history and style,

One word or warning though, last time I was there was in Sept, on one of the islands, the mosquitoes ate me alive, not a problem at this time of year.

I know a couple of Venetians! They are both very opinionated about Venice and how to travel there and more importantly how NOT to travel there. Both strongly suggested (with Venetian there is no other kind) not to go there in summer. Specifically they say to avoid late May to October and carnival!

Very cool, I was in Venice in 2012, but stayed in a regular hotel. Your air bnb is a much nicer choice!

Hotels does have advantages when you are traveling solo or as a couple, but with family with kids I won't do it any other way.

I've never been in Venice, and I must confess that the last tv show that I've seen, were all the scenes were filmed in Venice, made me think about putting in the bucket list. The Tv show was named (Non mi lasciare (Don't leave me)) (imdb link)
Enjoy your staying and the freedom for being without a laptop! 😅

Also there is Netflix series called Ripley! Shot in vintage black and white!

How... I have to find it out! Thanks for the mention of that series. I don't have a Netflix account, I'll see if I could find it ;)

Good reference, you're a bit to the north but it's a good cinematic reference.

If you hadn't mentioned it was an Airbnb, I wouldn't have realized; it looks very nice, I think it's a great choice and the B/W is even better.

I don't remember seeing photos on social media of Venice after the rain, but it doesn't lose its charm; on the contrary, it gives it a unique touch. I loved the Marforio Dragon lamp, and I hope you bring us some secrets from this week in Venice. I hope the family enjoys it a lot; I'm sure they will never forget it

Have a great week at Venice, Azircon

Rain adds to it. Also rain at night is quite charming!

Def good choice with b&w picture. I have been in Venice 15yo and deff would live to visit it again 🤭

I never had a chance to visit Venice. It would have been a real pleasure by the looks of it. The kids are enjoying the boats no doubt.

The older hated the Gondola if you can believe that! The younger loved it

Oh, I am sure the older, if anything, he will like the memories when he is older.

Looks like excellent accommodations. Rather than the usual tourist sights, it's fun to see the photo of the shops.

Yes. It's comfortable and has everything you need. I like to have the ability to cook on vacation and this place sports a splendid kitchen!

Through most of my travels I have always stayed in B&Bs and have seldom been disappointed. It always has felt so much more personal than a hotel room.

This post reminds me of my trip to Venice 5 years ago, we also booked an airbnb , around those stunning attractions I had a hard time to navigate thru google maps finding our way with those narrow cobblestone. The best adventure is getting lost but we found our way lol 😁 I couldn't agree more in this post, enjoy your vacation and have fun @azircon! 💃❤️🙌

Getting lost is half the fun. Although I don't get lost that much, the places here have so many landmarks!

That's undeniably a beautiful place with amazing view. Surely everyone would be having great time. Enjoy your vacation everyone!😇
