I have to admit, I wasn't planning to do a book review today...
When I woke up this morning, I was only about 30 pages or so into a new book I picked up by Dwight Nelson called American Apocalypse
This book was actually recommended by a pastor that was a guest speaker at my church a few weeks ago, so I bought it as soon as I could. And decided that this week, I'd give it a read.
The fact that I finished it this afternoon, should tell you everything about this book when it comes to my opinion of it. And there is a twist to the story but let's dig in...
The book starts off with the author going over the troubles in the world at present time. Specifically, he focuses on America and the social problems that seem to be common place. And while I started to get a wee bit uncomfortable at first because of the direction I thought he was going (political ideaologies) he quickly brought it back to the bible!
In my church, we are big on prophecy. And one of the chapter of Revelation we love to study is 13. This is the 'beast' chapter...Ooooooh scary stuff!
You know....One beast coming out of the sea, lots of horns, seven heads, creepy description....And then the other beast coming from the earth that had two horns like a lamb but spoke as a dragon....
Now without going into too much theology in this review, my church views the second beast of Revelation 13 as the United States of America.
Example, two horns like a lamb, meaning it began with Christian morals and values but starts to speak like a dragon as we get closer to the end of time.
What the author did for this book was tie in everything that is going wrong with the world, into bible prophecy that showcased how everything that had happened and is happening, is straight from the pages of scripture.
But what I found great about the book was that it wasn't 'doom and gloom', in fact quite the opposite....
The entire book focused on Christ and his second coming. Which is VERY good news for believers. So you will have to pardon me if I don't get upset with God setting the world right....
And then I got to this chapter...
O.k., this is the twist I spoke about earlier.....
For the first time, in my adult life, I literally cried while reading a chapter of a book.
Yeah yeah, what a wimp! I can hear the snickering already....But this chapter was beautiful.
In it, the author outlines 7 things that we should be looking forward to when we all get to heaven:
- Christ being with us (what a scene!)
- The Father being with us (Face to face!)
- Our guardian angel being with us (this made me so happy)
- The people of God throughout history (oh the stories we will share!)
- Heaven will be there (everyone that is saved!)
- Non stop learning for eternity (you think I love books now??)
- Everyone we witnessed to (I hope it's some of you reading this now!!)
It just made me smile from ear to ear while tears flowed down the cheeks. Crazy but such a beautiful thought about what will be.
Anyways, this book was exactly what I needed today. Such a great message that no matter what doom and gloom may surround us daily (and there's lots of it) God wins....That's the ultimate story book ending to human history.
I can't recommend this enough!

I don’t see anything wrong with grown men crying as long as they don’t make a big deal of it. In private it’s just healing in action. I cry to music regularly. Crying from the power of your faith is a beautiful thing.
And the US being The Beast is a wild idea but very interesting. I can imagine a few ways that might look.
Amen to that!
Yeah it's a deep study, I'll dig into it one of these days lol
The chapter must’ve been something else. I’ve had books catch me off guard like that too, mostly audio books. There's nothing wrong with getting emotional when something really speaks to you
Oh wow, it wasn't a 'sad' feeling at all...It was a happy experience. Hard to describe
then I'm happy for ya Mr Jongo
Who is the guardian angel in the bible? Michael?
That's a great question.....Guardian angels are 'assigned' to each human on earth. But Michael....Is actually Christ. That's a deeper study. Angel in the bible isn't always 'angelic being' it can mean messenger as well.

I’ve always wanted to read so many things about America because it’s my dream country
I’ll try to get the book…
This is much more of a spiritual look at America
