So osmotic pressure is basically water trying to follow the osmolarity rule by equalizing solute differences between two sides and hydrostatic pressure is fluid trying to equalize fluid height on both sides of a membrane?

I thought you put salt in boiling pasta for the noodles to taste?

    • @kelseyreinsch7786

People do salt their pasta water to flavor the noodles. You'd have to add quite a bit of salt to have a noticeable effect on the boiling point of a pot of water.

wait, we put salt in water to INCREASE the BP? wouldn't that mean it takes longer to boil?? i'm probably not understanding correctly!

When you add any non volatile solute in pure solvent then Boiling point of solution increases....this process is called elevation of Boiling point(due to adding non volatile solute, eg. Salt)

Yes you're right! Adding the salt to the water before it boils would increase the time it takes for it to boil. That's why you are supposed to boil the water first and then add the salt (for added flavor).
